I have a 10+ year old Sony 5.1 surround sound system and I thought the same thing. This device has a digital output. I connected that to my surround system and the sound is perfect.

If it does not, you can get Pro logic, which is not a digital format by hooking left and right analog inputs to the receiver, but you will need a AC3 Dolby DTS 5.1 decoder to do that. Ask Best buy, if not, sold on the internet . The Blueray player only has digital decoders for 2 channel mixes for TV's and sound bars not AC3 Dolby DTS 5.1, 7.1, Atmos or LPCM ect. If your receiver has 6 analog [5.1] inputs, it will play 5.1 digital Dolby and DTS with the AC3 converter. Have one and it works well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Dolby Pro Logic is not a digital format. It decodes matrix 5.1 sound from 2 stereo analog channels. To get digital 5.1 surround sound you you would need a HDMI, Optical,or Coaxial port, and a Dolby Digital Surround Decoder in your receiver or you will need a digital to analog converter to connect RCA cables to the receiver for Pro Logic to work, The Dolby digital decoders in the player do not decode 5.1 surround, thay are 2 channel sound mixes, for sound bars, TVs ect. If you have 5.1 analog inputs on your receiver, you can get a digital decoder that will work. Look for a Digital AC3 5.1, Dolby, DTS decoder Not real expensive.
