You can switch to a slower recording speed and get more time out of each side, but in theory you are going to lose video quality doing so, so to me it is not worth it. But I feel your pain - about to go digital to avoid this problem.

I would finalize the disc, when both have been used. Just make sure that you have the correct side and don't record over it.

switching rec mode to LP to be able to tape for 60 min per side?   (2 Answers)

Hi, I have a Sony DCR-DVD650 Camcorder. I have Sony's Handy Cam 60 min double sided DVD-R. So if i'm understanding correctly i can tape for 60 minutes if i change the "rec mode" on the camcorder to "LP". What is the quality of the recording? Anything else i should be aware of doing this switch? Thanks for the help.

Your record 20 to 30 min. on 1 side- finalize, then remove disc from camcorder and flip it over and re- insert unused side facing in and record on that side, then finalize and remove disc. @30 min per side when done
