I have both Sony models PX (battery operated) and UX (USB charged, cell phone like). From my experience, battery life depends on the quality of recording you are using. For example, higher recording quality will drain the battery faster, just like when you set an action cam to 4K (best quality), the battery will drain SUPER FAST; barely lasts 15 minutes. Lol That’s where the USB charged recorder may come in handier, but, if you don’t have a power outlet or power source, then you’re in a huge JAM. That’s where the AAA battery operated one comes in handy bc all you gotta have is a case of Duracells on hand. Hope this helps. (;

You can use alkaline batteries LR03 (size AAA) or rechargeable batteries (NH-AAA-B2KN, NH-AAA-B2GN): http://helpguide.sony.net/icd/p47/v1/en2/contents/TP0001155305.html There are models that have a built-in battery. Pick what's fits your needs: https://www.sony.com/electronics/voice-recorder-products/t/voice-recorders Regards, Vincent
