  • QuestionCan it use unpowered stereo speakers

    Asked by CorkTitan.

  • QuestionCan I use this receiver to connect my other components like CD/DVD player, cassette component and a turntable?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer I have not looked for a unit that has cassette specific input so I can’t be sure there is no way to set up at least the input .recording I’d imagine that’s a special output that this unit doesn’t have but I never went deep into that I’m not a cassette fan .all other connectors hdmi 2 I think ,rca ,optical (tos link) .coax digital all there ..if your looking for a modern cassette setup I’d guess your going into some high end equipment or go vintage (I do for pre outs and such for eq ..I can’t hook my eq properly to this and that’s fine I use for home theater

  • QuestionThe unit goes to protect mode and shut off, is there anything i can do? I just received the unit it’s an open box

    Asked by Cheng.

    • Answer This unit runs hot i noticed (I have a 76 marantz vintage I use for a 2 channel set up and it’s not nearly as hot ..the Sony 5.1 I put without much ventilation space on a shelf and I feel heat after a couple hours that never seems to go above a certain temp ,I have had it go into protect .only a few times and I feel like it was in error or maybe even a voltage spike /dip from my house supply not Sonys problem, if you have this thing open air and it’s tripping from heat something is def wrong and u have a warranty depending on the condition you bought the open box .Best buy has been fantastic with any return or issues I’ve had in the past I even got a brand new tv after my open box purchase (excellent) had no paperwork manual or plug in the box ,I took it back and right at the door the podium guy said ok drop it right there ,told someone get him a brand new one he should have gotten excellent condition and didn’t .i was out in five mins with a brand new tv .so if you should show up with the unit boxed and all tell em your issue ,maybe the a bad sensor or even a power supply issue ,idk how u can be sure hear causes the protection mode make sure first all your speaker connects are good ,proper polarity no strands touching chassis or across terminals as this will and should trip very quickly mine did during set up and I had no damage, protect mode is excellent and my gut says it’s not the unit but something in the set up and protect is tripping bc it should …I’m no Sony expert but I have been setting up audio and some video equipment my whole life and have working knowledge of how it all works ,my gut is usually right

  • QuestionWill this work with Samsung speakers? I have 5.1 Samsung home theater but the receiver is dead

    Asked by Bill.

    • Answer If you have passive speakers (sound like that’s the case ) you must have an amp or receiver working .unless you love the Samsung speakers and are not into a home theater set up ,y not get Bluetooth active speakers? And sell the Samsung ,honestly I am knowledgeable with audio hi fi music production quality,i would not even entertain Samsung for the best sound quality.Klipsh makes affordable and very efficient speakers with fine build quality and absolutely a step up from Samsung.I recommend the 600m or m2 I think its called now .300 ,350 dollar large bookshelf (I use stands idk what book shelf holds most of what they all call book shelf .even the much cheaper 200 bookshelf speakers that are small would be a nice step up ,that’s what I did bought 200 dollar low line klipsh and the build and tweeter quality impressed me at the price they became rears now ,600m as fronts I have now and am very pleased so 200 a few months later 350 on the 600s ..I spent 550 to 600 for a pretty small room dynamic set up ,also got a small 8inch used sub (this helps a lot as klipsch is not known for great bass production.suitable for non audio geeks without but anything is better than Samsung (speakers anyway) .my opinion and I have decades of exposure to economical to over the top hi fi gear ,I know what build quality looks like and what quality sound is to me ,that being said my front surrounds are pulled into the middle of the room for a huge boost in the field and sound of rear ports

  • QuestionWhat speakers are require for a healthy sound

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Any 8ohm speakers will work and if you know where to dig you can nab really nice speakers at good prices, being this is Best Buy’s site I’ll say they have a very very nice and easy return policy on open box ,or refurbished in fact I only buy from that inventory and have yet to have an issue I returned (excellent) rated open box and it was the most convenient return I ever made ,missing paper work and power cord .got brand new tv within mins of walking in ,my leg is messed up they saw me limp and had a worker just pick up the set and say where is your car ..never Best Buy fan 15 years ago had awful experience buying an I pod …brand new employees sitting and chatting on display and annoyed I wanted to look at the products they planted themselves on ,not one offering help that I needed .being they were morons and I didn’t need that help I just left never to return till 2024 and man they are different, helpful ,they seem to just trust the customers complaint and address it very professional if not generous assistance,so look at open box Sony speakers I hear great things at low prices on Sony ,Sony has cheap speakers that are highly regarded by even Audio nerds with expensive tase ..

  • QuestionHow can I take the protect signal off my receiver

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Without real knowledge of how to alter physical circuits and /or ,strong possibility they won’t allow this through software ,as it is a huge and fantastic improvement from hi fi hey day where your system would just burn up .only reason to disable or jump out protect maybe you have a nice unit and that’s the only issue and don’t want to fix professionally or just toss unit ,it’s foolish to bypass this .not that I’m of a similar mind set I do build the most inexpensive or even pick up units in trash or in recycling bin of high end private audio shops .i have done many a “not the safest moves “ so I can follow your thinking but really the protect its such a serious safety feature not only protects the unit but chances of other components getting fried .maybe yours is hyper sensitive bc of defective or bad components and will be fine bypassed but if you accidentally go across the line with a strand or two with speakers and protect don’t trip your going to have more damage than makes sense when a new amp or refurbished amp is the answer over altering something some MIT engineer came up with and you are a guy armed with a soldering gun ,some good electrical background and like to beat the man with reengineering…my more mature self says don’t do it this tech is not the logic we are use to

  • QuestionThis receiver started going into protect mode. Checked ventilation, powered off for a day and disconnected all speakers and it still goes into protect mode. I have had it just over a year with no issues and now it is completely useless.

    Asked by JSnyder.

    • Answer Yeah something def up with the protect circuit it seems from other complaints,I had some of that too initially (my speaker polarity was off and I had too tight a shelf ..possibly you blew it out with a mistake and protect didn’t protect quick enough (can happen with bad enough short or ground in speaker wires ..I say just pack it up and go to Best Buy show little over a year…they have been so cool with returns with me ..I’d not be surprised if they just make it right worth the shot ,but just show up ,don’t call and get policy read back they have a lot of discretion I think in sales and like I said I’ve been pleasantly surprised in how they don’t follow the letter of the policy but more what’s right and within reason on returns .id look to see with lil research if this is a flaw with the units altogether and if so mention that if they give you flack …they can put this on the OEM AND NOT MIND THE RETURN AT ALL

    Asked by Dawoo.

    • Answer No as this particular unit is trying to destroy the western way of life and Germany has developed a strong military and is willing to work with America to keep peace while being in a precarious position location wise …politics should not come into play with av equipment but this unit is radicalized like our kids ..so no it may protest depending on the unit’s ideology

  • QuestionCan I connect a turn table to this?

    Asked by Ken.

    • Answer Hi Ken! thanks for your question, about the connections, unfortunately, this model does not have a PHONO IN for turntable connections, if you want to connect a turntable that only has a PHONO output jack, you need to connect a phono equalizer (not supplied) between the turntable and this receiver. I can suggest you to check this model STR-DH190 that has the PHONO IN for you to connect your turn table. If you have further questions, you can contact us via chat or phone number 239-245-6366 (M-F: 09:00 AM – 09:00 PM EST) Weekend: (10:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST) Thank you for choosing Sony. -Gus.

  • QuestionCan my Sony SA CS9 active subwoofer be connected to this receiver wirelessly? If not, specifically what kind of cable should be used

    Asked by RichK.

    • Answer Hi RichK, Thank you for your inquiry regarding our Sony products. The Sony SA-CS9 active subwoofer cannot be connected wirelessly to the STR-DH590 receiver. To connect the subwoofer, you will need an audio cable. Specifically, you should use an RCA cable to connect the active subwoofer to the Subwoofer Output on the receiver's jacks. This connection will allow the subwoofer to function correctly with your receiver. Best regards, - Stephanie
