• A:Answer The player will play a non-4K disc and upconvert it to 1080P if you have a 1080P TV. So, in other words, it will upconvert any disc to you TV's maximum resolution without any problem. Hope this helps!

• A:Answer No. Your receiver isn't good enough and is 4 years old. NO BLURAY PLAYER improves audio. Not even older Oppo players. They just pass cleaner/decoded audio to your receiver. The Sony 1100ES is the best player I used at passing through and playing ATMOS audio samples and using with my Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar. I returned the Panasonic UDP 9000, because it was limited in it's capabilities. The 1100ES performs much closer to an Oppo player, whereby it can handle ALL formats. My recommendation to you is buy a more modern receiver if you want better audio performance. Look at Marantz receiver. I use that in another setup with Magnepan speakers. Sounds unreal. If you want a cheaper player to use with your receiver, the Sony UBP-X700 can passthrough Atmos and is 300 dollars cheaper than the 1100ES. But both perform closely similar when it comes to audio enhancements.

Q: QuestionI assume that with a blue laser this machine will read SACD discs. Is this correct? And if so does it play SACDs through a native DSD chip? Or does it convert the DSD data to PCM?

• A:Answer Yes to SACDs; I would assume DSD direct playback since it is a Sony technology. I’ll check next time I play one.

Q: QuestionI just purchased a Sony 77" OLED a9G master series TV... do I need this to maximize my 4k performance? can I stream from Netflix without it? and can I play all my other DVDs on this and get excellent quality for viewing?

• A:Answer If you have another platform for streaming 4K content, i.e. Vudu, Netflix, Hulu, etc. you do not need a 4K Disc player to stream 4K content. This Sony player is very awesome and my 4K disks look amazing. Additionally, it comes with a ton of picture codex for viewing many picture and music formats. P.s. if you decide to play a 4K disc or stream 4K, make sure that you purchase a 4K high speed HDMI cable otherwise the disc’s or 4K stream’s HDR content will not display properly.

• A:Answer According to the owner's manual of the UBPX1100ES it stats this information: [48kHz/96kHz/192kHz PCM] [48kHz]/[96kHz]/[192kHz]: Sets the sampling frequency for the PCM signals output from the DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL/COAXIAL) jack. On most HDMI ports for most bluray/4k players, there is no limitations as far as the sampling frequencies goes on these players....especially if they playback hi-rez audio formats such as SACDs and DVD audio discs. I really couldn't tell you on other Sony player specifications on the sampling frequencies though.

• A:Answer The player will auto-detect if a SACD is inserted. Depending on the SACD layers on the disk - some have SACD Stereo as well as Multi-channel - you will be able to select which SACD layer is played from one of the players options menus. I have never tried playing the redbook (CD) layer on an SACD which seems to be defeating the object of getting a higher res disk. The player does have Analogue Stereo RCA outputs - so you can play the SACD Stereo layer through these outputs if want. The player itself will perform the Digital to Analogue conversion to the RCA outputs. If you are looking for a multi-channel output then you will have the use the Digital HDMI output and the D to A conversion will be performed by your Receiver or whatever device you send the output to,

• A:Answer No, this BD player will not play region 2 BD discs. Unlike DVD back in the day, to my knowledge there are no "codes" to use to make a BD disc player "Region Free". You would have to buy a player from (most likely) Europe or find a player that has been modded (which might not be legal and this is in no way a recommendation to get such a BD player).
