Generally speaking unlocked phones mean they're GSM unlocked and Universal unlocked phones are typically compatible with CDMA carriers like Sprint and Verizon. Verizon lately has allowed certain phones to be certified to work on their network as an LTE only device and the XA2 as of today is certified to work on Verizon. Keep in mind that you have no 3G fallback so if LTE coverage is lacking then this might not be the phone for you.
