I bought this laptop just few hours ago and I had the same issue with just browsing. Many people say that this laptop goes unfunctional after few months because of the excessive heat. I am very worried about this because it actually burnt my lap. I am going to retun this product and never buy HP again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.try updating the BIOS and all the drivers, sometimes older BIOS may have an outdated temperature setting.

The i7-8550U processor can go up to 175 degrees Fahrenheit during turbo boost so the temperatures are certainly not concerning in the sense that the computer is overheating. I do wonder however if the temperatures you are experiencing are really while the computer is at rest though. It should not get so hot that it is uncomfortable to put on your legs while doing something as simple as web browsing or watching a streaming video. My first thought would be on checking the processes running in the background to make sure nothing is making the computer run faster than it should be. As far as other computers not running hot, searching the model and adding the word "hot" to it still shows results from those who are concerned the computer is running too hot. It is a somewhat common occurrence since the body of most computers being metal somewhat helping dissipate the heat. The majority of the heat removal is done with a heat pipe carrying the heat to some fins that the fan blows over. Ideally you would use a lapdesk (flat, solid surface) for the computer so that the bottom would be elevated. Also check that the HP Coolsense technology is enabled and working correctly. Above all, if you feel the issue needs addressed please reach out to the HP Technical team to look into this as they will know if it is an abnormal issue. I wish you the best!
