• Although it's not recommended for us in the Northeast, I'm in NY, because of high humidity levels, it definitely works. As long as my bedroom windows are kept closed, I definitely feel the coolness from the cooler. Just make sure to use ice & water when filling up the tank. It's really makes my room comfortable which is what I wanted. It cools down both my dogs, my cat, my daughter & myself. Definitely makes the heat bearable! Just don't open your windows when using it in a humid climate.

• Evaporative coolers need dry hot air that will cool as it absorbs water off a pad as it is sucked into and through the blower. These are used primarily in the southwest US. They are worthless east of Oklahoma City due to the humidity levels..
