“How do this work? I have a small cannon powershot that has outside measurements of 3"x5". It has a treaded fitting that can handle about a 1/4 inch screw. So, once I mount the camera on the Monopad, how do I take the picture?”

You will need to download your cameras app the monopod is only to hold the camera. In the app you will have the option to take the photo from your camera with the camera attacked to the monopod. Or for higher views you will have the option to connect with the camera via bluetooth if your camera supports bluetooth. Then you will see the view from your phone n be able to take the picture.
