You can indeed pause and zoom the recorded footage. If a vehicle is fairly close, you can see the plate and maybe faces. The daytime pictures are pretty good, the nighttime forget it unless it's very well lighted. If you are viewing the footage on your computer, you can either "record" or take "pictures" of the footage and it will "save" it to your computer. This way there is no need to try to copy from the DVR.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.if not too much of an angle you can zoom in and playback w/zoom to read license plates, quite clear too. Ours is 60 feet off the road on the corner of our building, and we can identify the people and license plates as they approach our property.
