- Answer Buy RG6 cable and BNC compression fittings at any major hardware store. 500ft of RG6 only costs $35 and is 10x better than the defective cable that Swann provides. (Buy the coax tool kit for making the BNC compression connections....the manager told me I could bring it back for a refund once I was done but I decided to keep it.)

- Answer You can customize a grid for each camera in which it will detect motion and it will only EMAIL pictures. I set up a dedicated gmail account for receiving images from the DVR and receive them on my phone, tablet, etc. Be selective in which cameras you choose to receive emails from....I probably have over 100,000 emails.

- Answer I was really surprise mine last about 2 and a half months, it keeps recording and erase the old ones by its self but I only have 6 hooked up but super happy with it

- Answer DVR is black but the cameras are white. Swann does have other camera models in black, unfortunately the models included in this system are only made in white.

- Answer Go to Swann.com and do a search for DVR-4500. The support page for any of the DVR4-4500 or DVR8-4500 camera/dvr combos will include a link for the dvr and software.

Questioncables?what is difference between TVI cable and BNC cabe? the Swann system seem to use these interchangeably.

- Answer Google will help you.....TVI is a type of transmission that can utilize coax "BNC cable." BNC is merely a type of connector on a coax cable (or in Swann's case, cheap RCA type cable that is not even shielded). TVI is a digital transmission and the Swann "BNC cable" type cameras (for which they give no indication as to what they are) are analog. TVI can transmit over longer distances and are backward compatible with analog cables.

QuestionHow many cables & splitters?If there are 8 cameras in the system, why are there only 4 TVI cables included in the box? And how many splitters are included? I need to know how many power adapters I will be plugging into the wall or power strip if I decide to buy this Swann camera system. Thanks.

- Answer There should be 8 tvi cables in the box. There was 4 in one box and 4 in the other. There are 2 power plugs. Each one has a splitter to power 4 cameras.

- Answer PDF for DVR available at http://www.swann.com/us/downloads/dl/file/id/1525/M48_4500311014E.pdf Camera: http://www.swann.com/us/downloads/dl/file/id/1537/MT855_091014E_Web.pdf I've attached an image of general camera specs; however, Swann does not specify the technology utilized other than saying they are "analog" 1080P "equivalent." I would suggest an HDCVI camera with good RG6Q cable or an IP camera.
