No, this case is not a "smart case" so it doesn't sleep/wake the device when you open or close it.

The case does not include magnets that take advantage of the sleep/wake feature.

No, this particular case does not shut off the iPad when the case is closed. Tarsus does make cases like that, but this isn't one of them.

I have been using the new case for about a week & I have not notice that happening. My ipad is set to time out in 10 minutes.
