48A is the highest output setting.

Hard wires means the wires go from the panel into the connector with no stop off point. This unit does not plug in, the wires terminate inside the unit.

48A is the maximum output of the charger. This equals about 42 Miles of range for every hour the car is plugged in. There is a nerdier answer to this, but I will leave that for the nerds.
