We dropped TiVo and wrote off the lifetime investment rather than pay several hundred dollars every few years because the quality of the hardware is so poor.

You can go with a lifetime plan for $499.99, if you care to, etc. I went with the one year plan because I figure on upgrading before the end of 2015. I recommend paying for the one year plan up front because it's a cheaper way of fulfilling your one year commitment. I used to pay two hundred per month for a cable shows that I never watched. So, this TiVo Roamio is a breath of fresh air for me. Thanks!
