• There are composite and component connections on this TV, you need to make sure it's connected to the composite connections.

• Sounds like a faulty HDMI or video cable ...try component hookup if you have one on your player & see if it still occurs

• How is the DVD connected to the TV? Are you using HDMI, or composite video? In any case, it shouldn't be B/W unless you have the DVD set incorrectly.
