• Yes, you can use it for both. when you use it on a 2.0 usb the light on the drive is white. when it is on a 3.0 usb, the light is blue. works on both.

• My motherboard has only USB 2.0. The drive will support 3.0 and lower with no problems that I can see.

• Sandra, the cord provided with the Toshiba - Canvio Slim II is USB 3.0 Type A to Micro-B. For an image, search Google Images for "USB 3.0 Type A to Micro-B".
