It works just like a real PC so the rules are the same.Yes you can install what you want. I get so used to the iPad problems with it being a big phone I forget the Toshiba is a scaled down PC

The tablet comes with Office 2013 for one year so you wouldn't have to worry about installing Office for a while. I did install the full version of Adobe Acrobat on mine without any problem. Yes, you can uninstall programs. I uninstalled at least one item which case pre-installed. Do it the same way you would on a Windows 8.1 desktop PC.
