“Why won't Portable DVD won't play DVD movies? My new USB CD/DVD Drive (LG model GP60NS50) is recognized by my new Toshiba laptop and I can load software on DVD from it but I can't play DVD movies. Drive spins up then stops. I tried the drive with my other laptops (Asus and HP) and it immediately plays DVD movies. The drive has a manufacturer date of January 2015. A check of the firmware looks to have the latest DVD driver. Why won't it play movies on my Toshiba?”

It will, you just have to purchase a portable disk drive and download a media player if you don't have one. You may want to bring it in to the geek squad at best buy for more information. It may be a problem with your computer or the media player you have downloaded.

What program are you using to watch DVD's on the USB CD/DVD drive? The auto-detect feature may be disabled for playing DVD's. You can call Toshiba tech support at (800) 457-7777 if you believe that it may be an issue with your Toshiba laptop. Thanks for buying Toshiba and hopefully this can be resolved quickly.
