When you plug it in does the volume show the headphone is plugged in? Did you run the DTS app and check those settings? Did you check the sound settings in Control Panel? Did you remove the sound drivers from device manager, then reboot the laptop? This would reinstall the drivers. Finally, if none of that works then return it. Don't fix it yourself since you will void the warranty. OH Don't forget about Geek Squad to check it out.

If not then you could try to reset your laptop back to factory configuration. If it still doesn't work, go ahead and try to make a return/exchange at the store you bought it from. This could be a defect for your laptop and you might void the warranty if you try to (physically) repair it yourself that is if the driver solution doesn't work.
