• Use the strip but I wouldn't put a heavy electrical load on the strip such as anything used to heat things, like a small room heater, or an air-conditioner.

• I don’t see why you couldn’t plug it into a surge protector. It is quite a bit wider than a normal plug so it might block more that just the one outlet.
