• Hi, cell phones work on either CDMA (red colored maps of the US on tracfone product boxes) or GSM networks (pink or blue colored US maps on tracfone boxes). Check the specifications listing on the phone page on tracfone website to see which one it operates with, then check with your area carriers or tracfone. Some phones are hybrids and will work on both networks. Why? I don't know. My husband and I bought two of these phones in Florida; he and tracfone couldn't get it to initialize in Alaska as we are a GSM network only in this state.
