Not if you have a digital (hdtv) television
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi, your antenna's functionality will depend on what type of tuner your TV has, to determine if it will be compatible with your set without having a converter box. If your TV comes with a built-in digital NTSC tuner, you will be able to just plug in this antenna and receive a signal. Please refer to your television's manual to ensure this is the case. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have a newer tv-digital- you will be fine. If you're using an old analog tv you will need convertor box
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Most newer TVs have digital tuners built into them. The digital converter box was for old analog TVs that could not receive the new digital signal. This is exactly for picking up the digital TV's. You simply plug it into the coax connection on the back of your TV and go to the TV/CATV setting and select TV and scan for local channels. They are all Free! The only thing with this antenna is it is limited to the distance from the broadcast tower. If you are out of range, you won't be able to receive the signal. And unlike Analog TV, it's either strong enough or not...meaning you receive a good picture or not (maybe some freezing or pixilation if you are on the edge - Analog used to be snowy). Local digital channels broadcast their main channel (Channel 2, 4, 5, 9, 11 23, 29 here in the Minneapolis/St Paul market), but they also have "sub-channels" that they send alternative signals under (5.1, 5.2, etc), so you have to scan to see which local channels are in our signal area.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We didn't need anything additional. Hooked it up to the smart tv and scanned for the stations. Worked wonderfully.
