Double layer disks give you more capacity without having to turn the disk over, they are 8.5GB on one side, regular DVD's are 4.7GB

A double sided disc would need to be flipped over allowing 4.7GB per side. Each side would need to be written one at a time. Please note that Verbatim double sided discs have been out of production for about 10 years.
