The Sub output is not amplified - it's just a high impedance output to drive a sub woofer amp. So, you'll need a sub-woofer with an internal amplifier to operate with this sound bar. That's what I'm running and it works great.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have this 3.0 Vizio soundbar and bought from Bestbuy the 10" Polk Sub on sale for only $99 and works great.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The output jack on this soundbar is unamplified (sometimes called a "line level" output). In order to hear the LFE (low frequency effects) that are best produced by large surfaces is to employ a subwoofer. Since the output of the soundbar is unamplified, an amplifier for the subwoofer will be required. Selecting an amplified subwoofer (also called "active" subwoofer as opposed to a "passive" or unamplified type) does this perfectly. In addition to the correct cable that will be run between the soundbar and subwoofer - you will also need to provide a power source (usually a 120 volt outlet) to power the amplifier inside the subwoofer cabinet.
