The tuner is needed if you want to get stations 'off the air'. If you have a cable or satellite service you don't need the tuner. Also a blu-ray player, AppleTV, Roku, etc. don't require the tuner
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The only Purpose of a TV Tuner is if you are only getting your TV Signal the old fashion way with Antenna. If you are using a Streaming solution or DirectTV, Dish, or Cable there is zero reason to have a TV Tuner built in to TV. Roku's, Fire TV all have there own Tuners built in to them. Honestly anyone buying a 4K TV should never uses over the Air unless they can't get Local Channels through Services they are using.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have your own in-home or roof-top TV antenna and watch over-the-air broadcasts, then your TV will need a tuner. This TV has no tuner, and you should probably look for a different TV. :( On the other hand, if you watch everything using a cable or satellite company box, a Tivo, or other such box that has a built-in tuner, then you will be fine. This TV has an excellent picture quality.
