- Answer Yes. I have the speaker unit in the living room downstairs which is in the east side of the house and the microphone unit upstairs in the bedroom which is in the west side of the house. So it not only separated on two different floors but also on opposite sides of the house. Loud and clear with no static or fade out.

QuestionI want to use this outside so I can hear birds and nature sounds inside. I'm guessing that this is now weatherproof, though, even under a roof overhang? Thanks for any help you can provide.

- Answer Hi - You can bring the parent unit of the VTech DM111 outside and will still be able to hear the sound from the baby unit. However, please note that the parent unit is an AC powered baby monitor. If you want to move around the house with the parent unit for a few minutes, you can install two AAA alkaline batteries for backup use. Also, the actual operating range of the baby unit may vary depending on the environmental conditions and other interferences such as walls, doors and other obstructions. Thank you, -VTech Support

- Answer They comes with there own adapters so you can use all the times but you can use simple normal batteries if you walking around but if unit plug in you don't have to use batteries
