It is a one terabyte solid state drive. One terabyte is equal to 1000 Gigabytes. And it isn't a hard drive. Hard Drives have moving parts, this has none, giving it much faster transfer speeds. After formatting, you will end up with something like 960 Gigabytes that can actually be used.

Please try again later.It is a Terabyte drive however, it's my understanding that how much space will be available for actual storage on a device is affected by what is required for use by the device itself. In our case, after loading the device, downloading all that is needed and before using any of the storage space on the drive we ended up with 931 GB of usable space on the SSD drive. I'm also letting everyone know that according to WD this device cannot be password protected. (I'm hoping best buy will correct that error on their website soon)
