This is not the case. I am accessing my files remotely with no problems both from a cell phone and other computers over the internet. It works great for this purpose. You DO NOT need a drop box for any of this. My problem with the unit is that by having this remote functionality turned on, the unit does not sleep and the motor runs continuously. WD Tech support told me that if remote access is turned on, the unit has to run continuously. This is a cloud killer for me. The unit will not last if it never stops spinning and working. But, by turning this functionality off, you now have just an over priced and slow (due to wireless transfer of data) storage device. It's a no go in my opinion. If you haven't purchased this, I recommend you stick with a traditional external storage drive. In my opinion, this unit was not ready for marketing as this is a major flaw.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would recommend not using the icloud drive. get a good router that has a cloud drive option. then install a regular drive to the router. let the router handle the work. no extra account needed. also. any type of cloud system you use will leave a hole in your network so hackers will be able to find a way in.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is simple and fast to upload/download remotely! I use myCloud to acces my work files from home/transfer them to work daily and I never have any issues. So long as you have decent high speed internet. I use Mac operating systems and when you download all of the software for the system, an app automatically downloads to your desktop and you use it whether you're at home, or accessing from a remote location.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.WD My Cloud is designed to work with the My Cloud Mobile and My Cloud Desktop applications when you are away from the home. It is designed to be your Personal Cloud. We have made improvements and recommend users update their My Cloud to the latest firmware -- something they can do after initial setup. In terms of Dropbox -- the My Cloud Mobile app for iOS and Android will allow you to access your Dropbox from within the App. Useful if you wanted to move files from Dropbox to My Cloud (or vice-versa). This is purely optional.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.you do not need dropbox. You can LINK and ACCESS your dropbox from within your mycloud phone app just for convenience, but you dont need to have dropbox. And I've accessed MyCloud from my phone using WiFi from work while MyCloud is at home, just takes longer. Hope that helps
