I do not share my NAS through my firewall and out to the internet. If you did that, then all someone needs is your account/pwd for external access. Also then they can also sniff your packets anywhere between you and your NAS; a coffee shop or plane with free wifi.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.In the nas setup through web browser setup. Make sure you uncheck public checkbox on share options. Also make sure require password and set password so can't just put in user name and boom you are in. No other software needed. Also if your router is secure with firewall enabled, should not be easy to access.
