The normal backup will backup only your files in normal mode. Advanced mode you can select to backup everything but that will not translate into a restore situation. You need third party backup like ghost or acronis and do system image that can be copied to this drive, not through backup software for nas but by setting up a user and shared profile on the nas and once signed into the nas, you can use it like normal external hard drive. Note: if you have gigs of storage to move, it is best to be hardwire Ethernet into your router or network switch at gigabyte speed or it will be super slow.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Even though it is very time consuming, I normally prefer to reinstall upon a new hard drive or computer. I find, and many will agree, that I acquire too much junk on a computer which I have been using for 8 or so years due to installing and uninstalling so many apps. Trust me, it is like performing a Spring Cleaning when you do this; same sort of effect when you fully wash your car or get your teeth cleaned. It feels so rejuvenating. Anyhow, yes there are various software packages which allow you to back up all of your old stuff onto this very fast 6T NAS. The key thing is that you are running on a 1G Ethernet network along with Cat6 cables to get the fastest throughput. There are some software packages which will take an image of your entire computer and then place it on that NAS. The only problem with backups is when you try to put stuff from an old computer onto a new one, you usually run into driver incompatibilities because the new one has the latest and greatest hardware. Over the years I just back up my "data" such as documents, pictures, movies, music onto a portable hard drive or this 6T NAS. Backing the operating system and then hoping to be able to put it onto a new Computer will never work very smoothly because of driver incompatibilities I mentioned.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's been designed to do back-ups, so, yes. The advantage is that you can access the data from anywhere on the internet.
