QuestionWhat is the storage capacity? 4 TB, or 2 TB storage plus 2 TB mirror?This mirror storage device has two separate hard drives. The description refers to 4 TB, but that could mean 4 TB storage w/ another 4 TB mirror drive OR it could actually mean 2 TB with the other 2 TB being the mirror portion.

- Answer 2TB initially in RAID1 (mirror ), physically there 2 HDDs by 2TB each.

QuestionWill it ever stop blinking?When automatically this NAS will be in idle mode? Now it's 24/7 high temp 52C HDDs. For how long will it survive?

- Answer Yes the blue lights in front stop blinking when the device is no longer being accessed. When idle, you should only see one light dimming on and off very slowly. You must be accessing this device from somewhere for it to be continuously running.

QuestionCan this device be completely standalone?Can this device be completely standalone, without needing an ethernet cable attached to the router or a usb connection to a PC?

QuestionRaid1 configurationI have read other places that if a raid were to go it cannot be replaced? Is that true i would think that is the whole benifit of configuring this as raid1 so if a drive were to go bad you can hot swap it.

- Answer RAID 1 is mirroring, meaning that each drive in the array would be identical. If one drive goes down, it can be replaced, and initialized. In a nutshell, yes, they are hot-swapable. The whole point of RAID is to provide for redundancy. However, if you were using this device as a 4TB storage location, without utilizing RAID, if a drive went down, you would lose everything on it.

QuestionHow much pwer does it draw when idle?Since it is always on, I was wondering if anyone had hooked it up to a meter to determine how much energy it pulls.

- Answer No, but the drives go into sleep mode. However, if you transfer a large amount of data initially if could be active for up to several days. I transferred about 900+ GB and it ran for 2-3 days indexing and sync with the other drive. This should settle out and enter sleep mode, minimizing power.

QuestioneSata Direct to RouterI have a "new" Linksys router with the eSata port directly on the back. The router is able to map any external harddrive directly to the wifi through this port achieving great speeds. Does this product allow itself to the plugged in to a router this way (vs Ethernet)? Thanks

- Answer This comes with usb3 and Ethernet. It comes already formatted with preinstalled software for backing up your desktop or laptop. If you use your router to format the external drive you will lose the preinstalled back up software. It is best hooked via the ethernet port directly connected to your router

QuestioniPhone 6+/iPad Air, etc., wireless access from how far away??I was told by a BB rep that this would allow me to access my files via a data connection on my iOS devices and/or others, from ANYWHERE that I had a data connection. Is that truly the case? e.g., let's say I'm in Tibet, and my home is in Ohio, USA. does this device allow me access to my files as long as I have a data connection? sort of just don't understand fully how powerful this device is, or is not. Help?

- Answer Yes, it is supposed to do that once you register the device on WD's site, but I returned the device because it was not stable. If you have a lot of files to back up, this system is very slow.

- Answer Other WD Cloud drives can backup directly to this one. Other USB external drives you can backup VIA the OS of the system it is connected to.
