I opened mine to be sure. It's the 8TB model, and has 2 4TB hard drives inside.

This is 8TB total, so when in mirroring mode only 4TB can be used.

The raw capacity is 8TB total. (Consisting of two x 4TB drives). When in RAID 1 mode (default), this yields 4TB of usable storage (actually a little less because some is used by client software, etc.) which is mirrored.
