OK, failure is always a possibility. If you have very valuable work that you wish to backup, I strongly suggest you get a smaller external drive and back up your valuable work there, then get another and back it up to that one. I doubt you would be unlucky enough to have two of them fail. I have only ever had one fail and it was backed up.
