This HD will work with a MAC but yes, it will need to be reformatted. It's actually a very easy process. Plug in the HD. Go into applications, utilities, then disk utility. You'll see the HD listed on the left side of the window. Click it. When you do you will some tabs to the right. Go to the tab that says erase. There will be a drop down menu where you will select what format you want. Chose the one for MAC and then click format. You can also choose FAT32 format which will allow you to use the HD on both MAC and PC but there are pros and cons to doing that. Hope this helped, if not, try YouTube
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I reformat all my drives before using even when it is pre formatted for Mac. With that said, this drive was formatted for Windows NTSF when I got it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Needs reformatting.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My 3TB worked fine out of the box with my iMAC and my PC - if you're only using it with Apple you might find it more efficient if formatted by the Apple.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does not work out of the box with a Mac Pro as the file format is set to Microsoft's file format. To use it with any Mac efficiently (adding and deleting folders and files) the hard drive needs to be re-formatted. Instructions can be found on WD's website. It took me around 5-15 minutes each time I bought a new WD hard drive, but once it is set up then it works extremely well, including time machine back-ups. I do not think that buying 2TB or 3TB would make a difference to the setup process.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You would need to format for Mac, but not complicated at all.
