Yes this can be used as a regular hard drive. You can format it any way you like.

Please try again later.If you have a "mirror" of your startup drive copied to this one, or you have loaded your system onto it from a download/CD, it can serve as a startup drive. Since USB 3.0 will still be slower than an internal drive (but not by much), you might find that a consideration. I use mine (have 3 backup USB's) for backup of files as well as a second startup drive for emergencies.
