A:AnswerWell I would think about returning it, since it’s not working like it should. Mine seems to be working well and hope it stays that way. You can open it manually on the bottom right hand corner where the door opens. The installer showed me that when they put it in. Hope that helps

A:AnswerOne way to do this is to put the unit on a table and sit the mounting bracket on the top as though it was mounted and hanging in place and tape it down. Then you can mount the damper to the rear of the unit as though it was in place on the wall and take actual measurements for the venting position. The mounting bracket fits nice and tight to the top of the unit so your measurements should be good. If venting through the back, make sure there is no wall stud where the vent will exit through the wall. If there is then you'll have to vent into the filter and not to the outside.
