Both are used to describe the same cooking surface which is actually a "ceran" or ceramic surface. The real difference is the type of heating element used. Induction makes use of magnetic coils to excite the ferrous or "iron" atoms in ferrous based cookware "steel or iron". Other cookware will not work with induction cooktops. Non induction or conventional cooktops use resistance style heating coils which produces heat through the ceramic cooktops to the cookware. These types of cooktops are not constrained to any particular cookware. There are pro's and con's to both. I recommend doing your research to make the best informed decision for your particular needs and/or wants.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think its just personal preference. I like the smooth tops/glass tops because they are super easy to clean. When there is a boil over no biggie wipoes right up!
