Mine powers up as soon as I turn on my TV. You can turn that off (Setup, HDMI, HDMI Control) but why? All my video sources run into the receiver including my PC. Went though all the setting to try to see if I could make it a passive Pass Through. I would say no. No matter what I tried, if the receiver is off, there is "No Signal". However, I ran an HDMI splitter from my DTV to another HDMI in on my TV and could use it that way. But even my 55" Samsung has crummy speakers so I never watch any of my TVs without a surround system. My Sony does though and it was pretty cheap.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not really. You'll have to use an additional component wire hook-up from cable box to TV, and that will involve switching the TV's "input' from HDMI to "component'' and back again when you want to get your receiver's HDMI involved again. You'll have to add an RCA connection from cable box to TV for sound, as well.
