This product is excellent for my immediate home theater needs. It delivers crystal clear sound without having to blow everybody out of the house. It comes with more than enough features than I will ever use. If you have a small room/man cave like I do, this is really all you need.

I thought that had a speaker problem with my stereo/surround sound setup. It turns out that I didn't have a speaker issue at all, it was the poor quality receiver that I had. I purchased the Yamaha, set it up with ease and it not only proved that I didn't have a speaker issue...it push the sound on my existing speakers so well that I thought that I purchased new ones! This receiver not only performed well, it out performed my previous receiver by miles! I didn't think that my current speakers could produce such quality sound prior to my Yamaha purchase! Great buy!

    fantastic amp

What a fantastic amp. clean, well built, and so easy to use. I purchased this to replace an 800.00 Denon that I have had for about 4 years now that does everything....well almost everything. It has more hookups and instruments than a jet plane cock pit, and its just as complicated to operate as one as well. In all of is glory however it cannot do what the Yamaha does with ease, that being true 5.1 thru the HDMI cable. The Yamaha has fewer inputs for older style equipment its true, but it is well equipped for todays HDMI products, and then some. All in all its a fantastic amp with even better sound. I simply love how easy it is to use, and how you can change setting from the remote on the television display. I was also very impressed by the 8 band equalization for each individual speaker. This feature alone was enough for me to love the amp. It allows you to completely tailor your sound preferences to your room, and speaker size. So in conclusion if your looking for a simply great sounding amp for your surround sound television needs, plus a few extra sound inputs this is a great product. If you have a entertainment center full of older equipment that you want to use as well you may need to look to one of the other amps with a little more old school options. Hope this helps, and happy listening.

Pros- this reciever has plenty of juice and sounds great. It has a modern appearance, has plenty of inputs/outputs, and is competitively priced. Cons- be aware the remote is infrared meaning if your planning on hiding the reciever it in a cupboard or cabinet, you'll have to keep the door open. Also there isn't a ir jack to connect an extension to.

Studied several surround receivers specs before going to the store. A couple of customers were at the store complaining about the brand of receiver they had purchased(that the salesman himself owned and had recommended to them) from another top brand that I also was considering. I am glad I went with the Yamaha the sound quality is excellent and it's easy to use. This unit rocks for stereo use also teamed with Bose and Klipsch speakers. It has more inputs on the back than others in this price range so I can add my cassette player and other stereo equipment if I choose. The only thing that could be better is the manual could be a printed copy and not a CD.

I have had this unit now for about a month and have been very impressed with the quality of sound it outputs. I have this paid with a set o premium 5.1 surround speakers from Monoprice and have been more than happy. The receiver does lack advanced features such as airplay and built in wifi or networking, but most other devices in my HT are capable of handling these task. The unit has more than enough power driving 100W per channel is more than enough to rattle the shelves. My only complain is the remote is a bit overcomplicated and could use some simplicity. Do yourself a favor and opt for a universal remote and it makes a perfect setup.

I needed to upgrade my existing receiver to have more HDMI ports as well as handle some different audio codecs. This receiver is exactly what I was looking for. I will never need 7 channels in my house. I don't need all the bells and whistles of many of the bigger devices. This produces a good enough sound to fill the room and was a breeze to setup.

This receiver has everything I needed to run my Bose Acoustimass speaker setup. Plenty of power, has enough HDMI inputs and has the DTS and Dolby Digital decoders. Does NOT get hot, looks good and works great. For the price range I couldnt see purchasing anything else except than the Yamaha.

This is a great tuner at a good price for a home theatre. It has plenty of features but not all the seldom-used bells and whistles that add cost to the higher-end version. Very easy setup brought a lot of self satisfaction!

This replaced an old Aiwa receiver that was not compatible with my new TV. Sound quality is outstanding, and it brought new life to my old Norman Labs speakers. Setup was very simple, and having both HDMI and digital optical audio options makes this a great purchase

My old Sony receiver had issues with surround sound randomly cutting to just the center channel making me want to throw it off a bridge. Well I didn't do that... but I did head over to Best Buy to find the cheapest Dolby Digital 5.1 receiver they had in store. I was pleasantly surprised to find this Yamaha with HDMI pass-through, a USB port, and the little microphone that allows the receiver to tune it's surround settings for your room and speaker placement. I bought it and after a few weeks have been very happy with my purchase. I just swapped it with my old Sony, went through the setup process, and life goes on. I would buy this unit again.

So, I'm not some super surround sound expert. But my new house has surround sound already installed. Had to get a receiver with 5.1 surround capability, but I didn't want to break the bank and spend a bunch of $$$$. Retail for this was $249, however, I got as an open box for $130. Installation was easy. I used HDMI for all the inputs and there are plenty of HDMI inputs for my needs. Attaching the speaker wire to the connectors was easy as well. The previous resident did not mark the wires for me, so I had to do some trial and error to determine the right connections. Works awesome. I didn't have the manual, but found it online. The auto-setup antenna is easy to use. Good quality sound for all uses I need (Sports and movies). I'm not a gamer, but it does have sound settings for playing games and even sub-settings for certain types of games. Great product. Great price. Great results.

I was on the market for a 5.1 receiver for well over a year and a friend who is majoring in audio production recommended this one. Seeing how reasonably it was priced, I bought it and eagerly set it up. Setup was quick and easy. And if the recommendation of an audio professional isn't enough, let me just say that the receiver delivers on all fronts, including sound quality. I have a PS4, Xbox One, satellite box, and turntable that are all hooked up to this receiver. It's convenient to be able to toggle through all the inputs via the receiver itself and vinyl has never sounded better. So yeah. If you're considering this receiver, just buy it. It's perfection.

The volume control on my 25 year old stero system finally died, so I decided to purchase a new receiver. The setup was easy and I love the fact I can plug in my iPhone - I can even read what track is playing on the display. I think this receiver is also a good upgrade because I'm using the original 25 year old surround speakers and subwoofer that was from my previous setup - I'm hearing sounds I never noticed before!

The sound quality of the receiver is just wonderful. When I bought a new 70 inch TV I needed a new sound system. My old one was 15 years old and had no HDMI ports just old RCA plugs. I also added a new center speaker to the system. The receiver was easy to hook-up and took no time. The instructions were great . I love the remote that came with the unit. It is easy to operate also. Back to the most important part, the sound , it is outstanding. The receiver also fits nicely into the whole system. They work together with one remote, TV, receiver, Bluray Disk Player, and yes a VCR.

I had an excellent Yamaha Receiver that was installed when the house was built in 1999. For this day & age, the only missing feature was the ability to hookup devices using HDMI (input/output). Had been looking for a 'reasonably' priced model that I could use to upgrade so I could make full use of the functionality in the devices I have attached to the Receiver (ONLY switch out the Receiver) & I found this. I would have given this 5 stars, but, it is missing a 'couple' of features that existed in my other box (like 'switched' outlets, etc).
