I am using this receiver for 5.1 Surround Sound. The connections for speakers gives you flexibility depending on how you want to connect them (Banana clips or connecting the bare speaker wire via clips). There is a connection for you to connect to a subwoofer using a subwoofer cable as well. That is the "Subwoofer Preout" jack just to the left of the speaker connectors.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is a 5.1 surround system, so you can actually hook up 5 speakers (front left, front right, a surround left, a surround right, and a center speaker usually placed in the front for movie/TV dialogue). The .1 is a subwoofer output. The connection for the subwoofer is an RCA plug but the others are binding posts which will accept bare wire as well as banana plugs. Just Google the terms if you're not familiar with them. Good luck!
