Yes I had to go through the settings to make sure the hdmi passthrough worked without the unit being on. It initially worked fine with the receiver on, but not when the unit off and I wanted to have my tv work sometimes with the receiver off. I had to call customer service as i couldn't figure it out and after an eight minute wait found they were very helpful and walked me through it. I had to go to press the setup button, scroll to setup and press the enter button; then scroll to hdmi and make sure the hdmi control is set to ON and then push it again to get to the listings for ARC and make sure that is OFF. This is how it worked for my tv, but you can call the customer service number if it doesn't work for yours. Hope this helps
