Denzel Washington and producer Jerry Bruckheimer helped to make this Rocky-style football films into one of the highest grossing films of 2000. Now Disney has produced a fabulous DVD edition that does it ample justice. The picture is a letter-perfect transfer, presented in a 2.35:1 widescreen anamorphic format. Colors are vivid and full, especially in the scenes that highlight the film's rural settings. The sound is a stunning Dolby Digital 5.1 presentation, which highlights the gridiron sequences as well as gives life to the soundtrack of Motown-tinged hits. The extras are also something. There is a solid commentary from key members of the production team, including Bruckheimer and director Boaz Yakin. Of even more interest is the commentary from Herman Boone and Bill Yoast, the real-life football coaches on whom the film was based. Also featured are some very revealing documentaries and six deleted scenes, many of which add weight to the story and help expand the plot line. Even for those who are already fans of this movie, this DVD will be a treasure trove of new information.

Synopsis

Remember the Titans
A high school football coach finds himself fighting for stakes much higher than the State Championship in this drama based on actual events. In 1971, a court order forces three high schools in Alexandria, Virginia (two white, one African-American), to integrate their student bodies and faculties for the first time. As a result, Coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton), longtime head coach of the T.C. Williams High School football team, is asked to step down, and Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) is appointed to replace him as the school's first black faculty member. The new coach is hardly welcomed with open arms, either by the school's staff or the students, and the newly integrated team is full of players (both black and white) who have little trust or respect for one another. But Boone is determined to put a winning team on the field -- it's how he approaches the game, and his future depends on it. Against long odds, Boone helps his team overcome distrust and misunderstanding of their coach (and each other) as they become a gridiron force to be reckoned with. Remember the Titans also features Nicole Ari Parker, Kate Bosworth, and Jerry Brandt, and was produced by action-film kingpin Jerry Bruckheimer. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A Great Football movie that teaches a hard lesson

I enjoy watching this movie all the time. Denzel Washington as the newcomer Black coach in Virgina in the early 1970's does a great job of portraying what its like to take on a hard task, and at the same time feel lost and not know how to handle the first football team with inter-racial players. Its funny, its sad. And it opens your eyes to what is going on out there. These young men were surrounded by hate and heard that they couldn't play football together-they go to camp and come back friends, and the world looks at them like they are nuts. In the end they won-not just a game, but they won over each-other and life long friendships. Like a quote in the movie said " I don't care if you like each-other or not..but you will respect each-other. Look around you men, if we don't come together on this hollow ground, we too will be destroyed."

Anything Mr. Washington touches is just golden, and this movie is the same...Gold. Its really hard to believe how a talented actor like Denzel Washington is only nominated for an Oscar when he plays a slave or a bad cop, but for a movie like this he gets nothing. I'm not trying make it a consipracy, but what the does he have to do. This movie just might bring you to tears, to see what these guys go from fighting each other to fighting racism on and off the gridiron.

The movie is great in fusing sports with real life situations! The amount of courage in the movie it took for the players, coaches, and families around them to accept and acknowledge that color does not enforce what you may and may not do. We all our equal and deserve to be the best in life!

This is a very touching movie which takes during the time the segregtion of the blacks and whites. It shows that teamwork can go a long way. The one football team is able to bring an entire town together and change the minds of many people and how the react to the intergretion of blacks in white schools. It is a great lesson and inspiring for any athlete.

this movie brings together a kalediscope of talented actors to portray the legacy of the titans. I don't see how they would be forgotten. Denzel brings his team together to fight for their spirit, and of course his job. The one minute that Coach Boone loses one game his head coaching job goes back to the former head coach. True family movie.

This is one of the Best inspirational movies I've seen in quite a long time. Based on a True Story of Race Intigration in the School in the early 70's in Virgina, "Remember the Titans" shows that if you work as a team, there is nothing that can't be overcome. I highly recomend this movie to anyone weather they like Football or not.
