The previous converter, different brand, gave out after a couple years. I do wish it eas compatible to work through optical output instead of just coaxial cable, but you can't have everything.

Some of the cons are it has its own adapter that needs to be plugged in and every now and then when I turn the tv & surround sound on, there'll be no sound. So I have to unplug the adapter, then plug it back in again. After that, it works fine.

Great Audio source from TV's without RCA jacks.

This Digital Optical to Analog converter allowed me to feed the TV's audio from the cable box to my theater system and I was able to set up and use the 2nd TV's Audio Source to feed my entertainment system.

I use it with a set of headphones for private listening to a TV program or a movie. If you use headphones you will a separate volume control as the sound volume from the converter may be a bit too loud without it. I saw one advertised on Amazon or if you are handy you can build one.
