Be sure to go into TV settings and set Audio to PCM otherwise you will only get White noise.

The tv only had an spdif output, so this device, and a couple of other adapters, allowed me to bring that functionality to my parents new tv.

Insignia Converter

Even though the schematic showed there was an analog output, there really wasn't any such thing. I just had a digital optical output that required this converter plus another cable to attach to my headphone base. Once this was installed I was back in business and Best Buy treated me very well.
