Movie:
... this one is right up that alley.
John Goodman.
Picture:
Always a great picture on an OLED, 4k upscale.
Sound:
Atmos on a Blu-ray is always appreciated but was average on a 11.2 (7.2.4). There was life like moment were some pounding came from the top in he movie and was projected on the ceiling speakers, I wanted more of that or that spherical experience which lacked.
Digital Copy:
Yes
Packing:
The stretchy wrapping that allows me to put a slit & repurpose it as a dust cover.
————————————Cons————————————
Movie:
The ending, leaves you hanging with lots that went unexplained. Maybe on the next one?
Price:
Not worth over $10
Slipcover:
No

Good Thriller/Mystery Not True To Cloverfied

Great movie by any means, just don't go in expecting Cloverfield. Has a nice premise and atmosphere along with great acting from the cast, which cast doubt as to what is really going on. End has a pretty good pay off but still doesn't live up to its Cloverfield name. Steelbook packaging is nice with all 3 main characters adorning the front, back and inside. The artwork is used from previous Cloverfield advertisements and posters that were out when the movie was premiering. The HD quality is amazing and pops with clarity and the surround sound is a bit laid back until explosions and crashes start. Definitely worth a watch if your into thrillers, mysteries or sci-fi.

The Steelbook has a nice matte finish instead of the glossy finish. I wish the interior art was different than the front and back. For $10, it's a nice addition to my Steelbook collection. I hope they don't come out with a 4K version and force me to double dip

This movie is awesome. This has to be Goodman's best acting of all time. You are stuck wondering the whole movie if he is crazy and making things up or if something is actually transpiring outside his bunker.

The film really kept my attention. The strength of the film is that you are on the edge of your seat guessing what will happen next. Whereas most films are easily predictable and you can pretty much map out what will happen 15-minutes into the film, this film keeps you in the dark and plays mind games with you as an audience member. I would say that if you are going into this film thinking it will be a straight sequel to the original film, Cloverfield, you are in for a rude awakening. JJ Abrams declared the film is a "spiritual successor" to the previous film in that a lot of the elements from the previous film are present, but the monster is in a different context for this film. Even the way the film is shot is different from the previous film, because the previous film was shot with the found footage style and this film does not use that technique. Overall, recommend it.

Set in the same universe as Cloverfield (but without the annoying shaky-cam), this film is thrilling, scary, suspenseful and glued me to my seat for its' entire run-time. Imagine awakening in a bomb shelter after a car accident to be told that the air above has been poisoned by invaders and that life outside the shelter is now impossible. Next imagine that the person you are sharing the shelter with is dangerously insane (the man crazy and paranoid enough to have constructed the shelter back when no REAL threat existed). Only he can open the air-lock to the surface and he expects you to believe him without allowing you out to check it out for yourself (telling you that you would die if you even tried--one whiff of the air and you are dead). Your cell phone doesn't work, nothing comes through on the radio (which he supplied). Do you believe him or not? And if it is true, can you, never the less, survive being locked underground with a possible psychopath who has a volatile temper that can be set off at a moment's notice by practically anything? Not a film for the faint of heart.
If you are a fan of both psychological suspense films and horror films as well (with an invasion twist thrown in for good measure), I recommend this film highly.

This movie is great for a one time watch. I personally would not watch it multiple times, but the story was intriguing and compelling. It held my attention and peaked my interest throughout the entire movie, though I was slightly disappointed with the way that the movie ended. It would have been incredibly appealing to fans of a science fiction story, though I was hoping for a bit more realism. The ending did, however, provide a surprising climax, and left the movie open for a possible sequel, which has the potential to be very well done. The characters were interesting, realistic, and well developed, and the movie kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. There are a lot of intriguing, suspenseful moments that came out of left field, as well as a fair deal of violence and shock factor.
A great nighttime watch, especially if you're a fan of suspense and mystery.

A Perfect Movie

10 Cloverfield Lane is a pseudo-sequel to Cloverfield, but instead of being found-footage it's a standard film, but with something truly remarkable; it's perfect. The story: When Michelle (Mary E. Winstead) is forced off the road by an unseen driver, she wakes to find herself in a bunker with Howard (John Goodman) and an injured man named Emmett (John Gallagher jr.). Howard tells her the outside world is gone, and they are all that's left. But, soon, Michelle starts to realize nothing is as it seems, and begins a desperate fight to figure out what is truly happening.
What makes the movie perfect is every piece fits together. The direction and script are tight-nit and expertly woven together, with not a single plot hole left in. All the characters are built up and hit their peaks of development through strength or conviction. Even the ending which some found to be a pitch out of right field, came about through all the clues and hints dropped throughout the movie; you just have to look for them. And even the musical score from Bear McCreary is a masterpiece of suspense, ratcheting the tension in ways you wouldn't imagine. Obviously the movie isn't going to be liked by everyone, but even if you don't like it, you can't deny the incredible achievement this film is.

A clever spin for a monster movie sequel

First off, yes...this is a sequel to Cloverfield. And yes, there is a creature element to it...but perhaps not what you'd expect. Most of the movie focuses around a woman getting captured by a survivalist (Goodman) and trying to escape from his underground bunker with one other captive. Towards the end, its ties to Cloverfield are revealed...sort of.
SPOILER ALERT: There are no kaiju in this movie. In fact, 10 Cloverfield Lane's connection to the first movie is solely the town in which it takes place and the fact that there's a monster/sci-fi element to it. There are no giant monsters that collate to the creature in the first Cloverfield movie–or so we're led to believe. You only get to see the "aliens" in the last 10 minutes of the movie, and it leaves you wanting more.
However, I can't really think of another sci-fi movie like 10 Cloverfield Lane. As a suspense/thriller movie, it excels...so try not to think of it as purely sci-fi fare and you may like it. It boldly combines two different genres, and I admire that.

The film is an interesting mystery that opens with a young woman who is in a car accident waking to find herself in a bunker with John Goodman, who assures her that she's safe, but cannot leave, as there's been an extensive chemical attack that's left the outside world tainted for the foreseeable future. There's another random guy staying there who had apparently begged his way inside, making for an odd little threesome to try to tentatively get used to one another for the weird duration, but everyone (audience included) is left wondering what the real truth is, because our host just seems to have some strange mannerisms for a survivalist with good intentions, and that's what keeps things interesting on the back side of the film. I really dug it and it does indeed feel as if it could take place in the same world as the original Cloverfield film, perhaps taking place after the NYC action in another part of that world? Good stuff and well worth a look.

A different look into the Cloverfield world

Whether you liked or loathed Cloverfield, which was another polarizing jump into the found footage genre, this is worth checking out as it's a different look at this world. Comparable maybe to the way George A Romero took different looks at his Zombie apocalypse in his Night/Dawn/Day trilogy. The film is a tense, claustrophobic movie that feels very disconnected from that first film until the film takes a (some might find strange) turn for it's final act.
The video quality is fantastic and especially if you're home theater is setup for multidimensional audio (Dolby Atmos, DTS X etc) you'll want to grab this release just for it's Atmos soundtrack. Which goes from really helping pushing the claustrophobic atmosphere to pumping in some great moments during mysterious moments (fly by's etc) to being more all out in the last act. Not for everyone, but a good ride and the A/V certainly is worth it.
