Serious power for price for a gaming laptop

It may not be the highest end gaming laptop, but as far as bang for buck, it is right up there.
There are multiple tear downs out there that show just how well built this thing is. The bottom panel is easy to remove for quick upgrading of hard drives and ram. The 8th gen I7 H series is a win for the mobile gamer. While the graphics card could be a bit better, the GTX 1060 is nothing to sneeze at and should provide decent fps at ultra settings for many years. And with the quality thermal construction, this thing doesn't get uncomfortably warm while gaming and can sustain high resource demand for marathon gaming sessions (I believe I had GTA V on ultra for about 9 hours straight yesterday and temp barely crossed 85 degrees celsius on the video card, lower on the cpu).
The only reason I wouldn't automatically give this a 5 and had to seriously think about it is that it is not compatible with external docks and will therefore become obsolete much easier and faster than a computer capable of using a thunderbolt dock. It also has a weird feature in that the "HOME" key has been replaced by an OMEN hardware key. This results in needing to do more work to press a home key, which is fine in some cases, but some games use that key extensively. It was an odd choice to me to replace that one, instead of one of the windows keys.
You do have to be aware that some games more than a couple of years old might detect this machine as being below their minimum specs. This is caused by the base clock of the CPU being pretty low. However it's turbo clock maxes out at 4.1 GHz and it can sustain that under load. Low base clock is a power saving feature, but the power plan does a good job of getting the heck out of the way when it's time to game hard!

Purchased this laptop for a family member. They are super impressed with how quick it boots up, runs and how sturdy it feels. HPs gaming laptops are great machines. Even if you don't game, it is a great laptop that is very responsive. Only downside is setting it up to save everything, including downloads, to the D drive (non-SSD) and explaining this to the older family member why we need to set this up!

I purchased this for my dad who is an avid gamer. He had a table top and I wanted to update him. He absolutely LOVES it. Not only is it super clear and the graphics are sharp but its fast and holds lots of memory. He described this laptop as the Rolls Royce of laptops compared to his Toyota. To me that says alot. Thumbs up.

my 11 year old upon opening his Christmas present recognized, much to my surprise, the Omen logo and its significance. He immediately opined, much to my surprise, favorably as to its merits compared to Alienware. Prior to research alternatives for this purchase I had never heard of either Omen nor Alienware. He's totally satisfied and his friends are totally bent out of shape that they don''t have one.

After issues with an alienware product, this laptop was a happy alternative for a lower price.

Love it so far, initially had a number of system re-booting that would happen but hasn't occurred for a while now.

bought 3 weeks ago. upgraded 128gb PCIe ssd to samsung 970 EVO 500GB ssd and now faster and more gaming power/storage. It's VR entry level as far as I'm concerned with the 1060 which HP now has an external graphic amplifier like Alienware so I'll be able to upgrade later if I need to. Plan on getting an Oculus rift setup this spring to test out VR. The laptop is fast, screen is a phenomenal 1080p with 144 refresh rate and with g-sync. doesn't get hot but I don't play heavy shooter games that are graphic intensive. Will update in a couple of months

Bought this in late December. Wasn't in stock so had to order it and ship it to my home. Store said it would be delivered on January 10th, received it on the 3rd. Nice surprise. Trying to get detailed info about product online is hard do to it being a new version. Upgraded the HDD to SSD the day I got it. Big difference. Because of the relatively small primary drive, you need to be aware of where you install new software or it will fill up fast. Upgrading the primary drive which is an 128gb m.2 NVMe, is on hold do to the lack of the necessary cable needed to clone OS. Don't want to spend the money on buying an enclosure which seems to be the only thing available at the moment. Ran benchmark test and everything was at or above what was expected except for graphics card. With Gsync on, marks were below normal. With Gsync off, marks went up to the low side of normal. Boot time is very impressive. Cooling fan is noticeable when it kicks in, but you quickly tune it out ad it's not so loud that it drones everything out.

Could be better, but happy. I use this mostly for gaming, and at times it lags.

Bad network adapter! Known issue - see HP forums

Before buying this computer, go to the HP Support Forums and research connectivity issues with the Realtek RTL8822BE Network Adapter. I spent $1,500 on this HP laptop less than a month and it has major connectivity issues straight out of the box. I can't use Wifi and Bluetooth at the same time or it will drop every few minutes and has extremely slow downloads. I own several other HP laptops (HP Envy, HP Laptop 17, HP Laptop 15, and more) at our office that were under $500 and none of them have this issue.
It is a shame because otherwise, this would be the best computer I have had. Because I have not been able to get any help from HP other than their virtual assistant that things turning off Bluetooth is an acceptable fix, I am going to buy a new network card on my own and never buy HP products again.
