After having some problems with another brand (which I had bought 6 months ago,) I looked into buying another laptop. This time I wasn't going to buy the super cheap one that had little ram and HD space, I wanted one that I knew would work for me for a number of years.
I had looked into 2-in-1s, but I really didn't need one that went into tablet mode, as I already had a tablet. I didn't need one that was 15" or more, as I wanted lighter portability. The only HP that I had owned previously was nice at first, but then slowed down to a craw. After checking ones out at different stores, I kept getting drawn to this one.
This one has fit my needs and desires perfectly. Even though not the fastest in starting up because I it has a SATA drive, I can't complain. It isn't too small like I found with the 11" ones that I had owned, nor is it to big to carry around.
The sound on it is great and I have only had the volume at 100% once, as I wanted to know how loud it can get. The weight is really nice, where with a larger laptop one can feel like they are lifting weights carrying it around and a small one can feel so like at times that one can easily forget that you can drop it.. It is not to big to be trying to use on an airplane, on public transit or in a car.
My only problems with this is that the fan intake is located on the bottom, so if I place it on something soft like my bed covers, the fan can become loud and the bottom will get hot. It also doesn't have a super camera, but I rarely have used it. The touch-pad is sensitive, so that is something to get used to.
Other than that, after using it for a month, I have no complaints for what I am using it for. For me it has been well worth the price.

I love my new laptop! It is easy to set up, light so I can drag it to class with ease, and pretty quick! I love that it has the 2-in-1 option for watching Netflix in bed, playing games, or reading. I've had it for about two weeks and I am just so excited about my decision.

I've had this computer for about a month now, and I absolutely love it. It's very fast, responsive, and lightweight. I also love the fact that it is a 2 in 1 convertible so I easily transform it in a tablet. The only thing I hate about this computer is that the fans get really loud sometimes when you use certain applications. Overall, I love this computer and I definitely recommend it for the price point.

Noise ?

I bought this laptop a few days ago and I noticed that the fan made noise, not completely loud but loud enough to be heard in a silent room. But then aside from the fan there was another noise to it which sounded like a clicking sound in a way. I exchanged this laptop with the same model but in15.6" and it made the same noises as the 14" one. Are these noises normal with this model ?

Awesome Keyboard, But.....

Pros:
Keyboard.
Windows Ink.
Converts to a tablet when you flip the screen 360 deg.
Video, its very fast with rendering.
Size.
Cons:
HP Assistant issues, you must update that first, before downloading the necessary HP updates. HP fails to mention this.
Weight.
Connection issues.
Blue Tooth Connection Issues.
Boot Up Speed, 2.5 mins to fully Boot up into Win-10 desktop.
HP online assistance depends on who you get as to how good your experience will be.
Before I get started, my home system which is way over built, ranks in the top 17% of personal PC's worldwide. The world rank on this 2 in 1, it ranks in the top 34% of personal PC's worldwide. That said, I am quite spoiled by my hone system, it completely boots into Windows 10 in 45 or so seconds. This computer takes about 2.5 minutes to completely boot into Windows 10. By booting into Windows, the boot up is complete once the system has opened Windows 10, connected to a wireless network, handled the connection to OneDrive, established a connection to the wireless printers, and the hard drive light settles down.
As for support from HP, well that is why I dinged this 2 in 1 back to 4 stars. As usual, with every HP PC I have ever purchased, 8 laptops to date, the update assistant does not work. You have to update the update assistant, HP doesn't mention this, please consider yourself notified of this. If you fail to update the update assistant, the recommended system update downloads, the update assistant tells you to download, well they won't download.
As for service from HP, that really depends on who you get. Via the update assistant you can connect with HP, and they can remotely access your computer to fix what ever is wrong, which is awesome! However, it has been 36 hours since the HP tech bailed on my speed and connection issues, he said I would get a call back within 24 hours, and I am still waiting.
Connection issues have to do with connecting to a cellular phone's hot spot. I have been able to do that only one time, at home. It was embarassing, when I tried to connect to my cell phone for a business presentation, and it failed to do so, the hot spot button did'nt work regardless of what I tried. Another reasion for the 4 star rating. The Bluetooth has connection issues also. It pairs with Bluetooth items, but that is all it does, IE: Bluetooth earbuds are paired with the system, but that is it, you can't do anything with the paired Bluetooth device.
The keyboard is awesome! The keys are spaced flawlessly apart, the feel when typing is wonderful. I ordered a keyboard protector, those are hard to find, but Amazon has them. I was afraid the keyboard protector would mess up the feel of the keys, it acutally improved the feel and I strongly recommend getting one. Especially if you use the tablet mode, and touch screen alot, the protector will keep the keys safe from damage.
As for extreemly necessary ancillary items. I recommend getting the following items, along with this 2 in 1. A Bamboo Ink pen, to work with the Windows Ink feature. A keyboard protector. A 15.6' 16:9 aspect ratio screen protector, you have to trim it a liittle to fit, I can't seem to find one for this 2 in 1, like you can for the IPad, and Microsoft Surface.

Nice laptop with convenient size and the weight you would expect for a unit with a 14" screen. I wouldn't call it "zippy", but if you need a laptop for school or standard word processing and office functions, this will do fine. It's a budget computer, so don't expect a high-end screen, though it is touch-capable.

if you want to record anything, upload or download anything like music or videos or pictures... if you think youll by cheap for your kid DONT buy a toshiba!!!! they are the worst computers im on one now when i first got mine me and my sister got the same exact computer for Christmas last year hers works ok she complains about how slow it is on buffering for netfix and always having to update almost everyday but ive had it worst... they are an inconsistent brand right when we got them we noticed how mine worked slower taking longer
(about an 3 hours) to install w.e it needs to when you first get it... then as i try to work on videos for youtube (i have a couple popular youtube channels) i cant do pretty much anything on this ... its allmost like i just have a big android phone that runs on 3G with a key board ..

I was excited to purchase this laptop and waited for it to be the deal of the day. Yesterday I bought it, took it home, did all required updates, downloaded the free 6-month protection program and was happy as can be (even though the updated took hours on my high speed internet).
The problem with this computer is in the start up. My new laptop takes over 5 minutes to actually start up to where I can use it. Sometimes when I start it up, it does not get to the windows screen...just a black screen. I chatted with the HP service team and they said I have a defective laptop and since I am in my return period to bring it back. I'm bummed out. While I do like the 14 inch screen and other bells and whistles, the keys on the keyboard are noisy and loose, and the touch pad is a bit flimsy. I'm going to return this and look at other options. Just when I thought my search was over for my under $500 laptop. Disappointed!

Received and love the size, weight, and function. However, want to let everyone know - NOT 3 USB-C ports as listed under SPECIFICATIONS drop-down list. Unit has only 1 USB-C port & 2 USB-A 3.1 ports. Hope this helps future buyers.

6 Months in Needed Repair

tldr - Would not recommend, hinge broke quickly resulting in damaged exterior and insistence on HP's part to not cover it under general manufacturer's warranty.
I've had laptops since I was 12 years old for school and video gaming purposes, so I know how to care for a laptop and prevent damages and I notice when something isn't working as intended so as to fix it before it becomes a bigger issue.
Less than 6 months the hinge on the right broke, which caused the computer to open reluctantly, the screen started popping out, and the exterior protecting the back of the screen cracked by the hinge.
The customer service at HP was very reluctant to provide any sort of support, and in the end we had to foot the $200 bill to repair the back of the screen cover damages, even though we thought it was fairly clear that a defective piece in the hinge was the cause. The geek quad crew in the best buy we bought it from agreed that it was not our fault and we still got stuck with the repair bill because the warranty doesn't cover any exterior physical damage. Will not be buying HP again.
This was my first HP laptop, and we took advantage of a pretty good deal on this laptop with specs that were more than sufficient (on paper) for our needs. I figured I might at some point upgrade the RAM if it were a little slow. i3 is generally ideal to prevent laptop overheating, 500GB memory fine as long as you have an external for large files (which you should have for backup anyways). Did not expect to have to spend an extra 200 just to have a laptop that actually opens without the screen popping out. Not happy.

First laptop I got had a broken key and made a buzzing noise. Took it back and exchanged it for another of the same model. The second one would not turn on after just one week and kept freezing on a black screen. Took the second one back and spent an extra $100 on a Dell. Best Buy workers were very helpful with the exchange both times. I really liked this laptop when it worked, but there were too many issues.

I bought this laptop 4 month ago and now it is having problem: boot device can not be found. My immediate reaction is calling HP because it is sill in warranty. The tech told me to turn on and off the laptop several times and it did not work. Then I was told that I have to pay $200 to let a tech to do the job and that's it.

Touchscreen does not work . What isgood a 2 in 1 if there is no touch. That is the main reason I chose this model. The screen worked for about 1 month then quit. It says it has the latest driver version...still does not work. Took it for a repair that cost as much as the device. It was reset with no luck and neither him or I could find a workable driver, and That was even after going thru intel. Yet I still det an error message for the touchscreen driver.

It is slow and apps most of the time says session is expired and the last time it said it, it was for the internet. You have to shut it down everytime you are done using it or the battery will die really fast. When you turn it back on it takes at least 1 hour to load I would tell you exact but I just give up everytime. This is the worst computer I have ever had!!!!!

I would not recommend this laptop. The price was great for my budget, however, the 2nd time I tried to power it on it took forever. I restarted and tried again, same long start up process. I took it back and exchanged for the same product, started the new one, and sure enough, same issue. I timed the start up and it took over 7 minutes each time.
