Fast, Functional, But Storage May Be a Problem

This laptop is a perfect size for a student and will give you all tools you need for a college or high school setting. Its lightweight and the ability to switch between a tablet and laptop display is something a lot of people can take advantage of. The computer is also extremely fast. This is in large part due to the SSD. Just like its description says, you sacrifice storage space for faster load times. Now, after buying two laptops with different hard drive types, I can say that the HP is much faster than my Acer with 1TB HDD. So if you value speed more than you do storage space and you don't see yourself running out of space with this laptop then go for it. Its a great buy.

    Nice Laptop

This is my first ever laptop. My old ipad2 has gotten so slow its became unusable, so decided to get a laptop with more versatility. I almost bought a cheaper laptop for under $400. But after looking at the sub-par screen, I opted for this one based on the reviews and in store demo. It was worth the extra money. Very nice clarity on the screen. I want something to surf the net pretty fast, but don't need a lot of extra frills. Touch screen is handy to have as well as the backlit keys. On sale or with the extra student discount, a very nice computer under $600. Buy it.

4.5 Star Computer. IF on sale, buy it!

Pros: super fast start-up. --Handles multiple Chrome tabs like a champ! I am a teacher and run all of my classes through Google Classroom. At any given time I might have Pandora, Power School, Turn It In, and a number of Google Docs open. There is zero lag! --Speakers are on top of the machine, so music is clearer and louder than similar models. I went to my local Best Buy and did a test of all the comparable models--this machine definitely had the best sound. --Same trip, I also did a 4K Video test of all the comparable screens. It is a beautiful picture for sure. There was zero lag handling the 4k stream. --The hinge seems solid when flipping the computer into Tablet mode. To be honest though, I didn't buy this machine for that and don't envision using it too often. If I could have saved $$$ and just got a traditional I would have. In all seriousness, not sure how long the keyboard would last on 2-1 constantly pressed into a body or a desk. --touchscreen is accurate and easy to work with. Cons: these are not deal breakers, but a bit annoying. --the power-cord sits on the top right of the machine smack dab next to the HDMI and the USBs. All of the inputs are super close together. Right now I have a wireless mouse, an external drive, and the power-cord all plugged in. It is a VERY tight fit. It works, but is cumbersome. --this was only available in the gold color. The aesthetics of the machine obviously wasn't a deal breaker. However, the gold top is just ugly. It looks sunbleached. As I have had this machine for about a month, it has only gotten uglier. Would have much preferred just a straight silver --lastly, the hard drive size. I spent about 3 months looking for a 14 inch laptop. This finally went on sale and I was able to nab it with the $100 Student Deal since I am taking grad classes. In total, bought for roughly $575. At same time Best Buy had a 4 TB external drive on sale for $80, so I grabbed that too. I plan on putting nothing on this hard-drive, so size shouldn't be too much of an issue. However, unless getting it for the price-point I did, after all the research I found, I wouldn't pay full price for this. There are definitely similar laptops with more space at same price when not on sale. In short, this is a really nice machine. I haven't heard the fan once! Not a single time. I have definitely felt the heat blowing out the lefthand side though.

Pretty Good but not what I'm looking for

Recently purchased and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why the pressure sensitivity for the Bamboo ink wasn't responding. It would detect it, but it was voided of any pressure sensitivity. I called Wacom tech support and apparently it's only "partially" compatible where you can use it, but there's no pressure response. I could bash the pen into the screen and I would get a tiny dot. I basically bought a 70 stick to touch the screen. (I heard the Microsoft pen works with it though I'm not 100% if it's full compatibility. As I said earlier Wacom is partially compatible). If you're looking for something for school or daily browsing/watching and mild photo editing I would recommend this. It was a pretty great in the sense of speed, loading etc. I loved it (I even called it Yolk as a nickname cause of the silk gold finish). Loved it up until I found out it wasn't compatible with my Wacom items. Will be purchasing the Lenovo Yoga 720, as I double checked it's compatible with my pen. Still would recommend to daily users and student!

I went in hoping to get a MacBook, but some things fell through and I got steered in the direction of this little number. I have to say that i am very impressed. I have been a mac user for 2 years now for school, but this computer has met my every wish when it comes to my computer needs. It is sleek and lightweight to carry. It's not too small and it gets the job done. They keyboard is nice too, its nice smooth transitions and there isn't much noise when typing. I love that you can flip is 360 degrees and have the Wacom stylus pen and it picks up your handwriting easily and it can help solve math problems and everything. I was very impressed that I went in for a mac and i walked out with an Hp! very satisfied.

I'm a college student and needed a smaller lightweight laptop that I could carry around to class with me, since my previous HP was much too heavy and a bit outdated. This is the perfect size laptop for me and it's very fast! I was considering a MacBook Air but I'm glad I chose this, as it is much more affordable and comes with more features.

PROs) Two stars for the looks. Nice design and good looking. I was very happy before I started using it. Do not judge the computer by the look! Well, one more lesson. CONs) fan noise got very loud and distracting within 2 month after purchase, which is too late to return to BestBuy. First attempt with HP Customer service was not successful, just like other customers. Installing updated BIOS did not solve the fan noise problem, as expected. Window 10 got glitched during my daughter's debate competition and then was reset to factory default (after self-research). With 1 -yr warranty, I need to figure out what to do with this laptop. It is now more like headache or homework, instead of fun to use. Please let me know if you may have any idea? I feel like that I should have bought a cheap laptop with less expectation or from COSTCO for easy return.

    Great for multitasking

Got this because i was pursuing an online degree and needed something with a decent amount of power for multitasking. This worked great for me. My only complaint is the tablet mode.. it’s a bit glitchy. Had an issue with it causing my screen to black out and go into a rest mode randomly. Also, it’s a super awkward shape for a tablet so I usually ended up just typing my notes. Overall, I’d recommend it.

    Beyond Disappointed!!

This was a gift from my dad to take to college. We expected it would last for years, like the cheap Toshiba I worked on for 6 years...7-12th grades. So I loved this laptop when I got less than two months ago. Then I'm in my dorm trying to get school work done, the screen goes black. All I can see is the cursor. Hours later it miraculously comes back to life. Next day, it goes black again I'm in panic mode. I've got work saved in the computer. I call HP (tech support is very good. Nice, patient people. Thumbs up for them). The tech guy fixes it. I can breathe again. Then one week later, screen goes black. Again. No cursor this time. Just black screen. HP tech support, great again, but no luck in fixing it. They want me to send it in. I'm a freshman in college miles away from even a post office. Now I'm angry. They said I can take it to Best Buy to be fixed. A couple days later, the laptop comes back to life. Infuriating. I work on it again hoping it will stay ok until my Fall break and I can take it to be fixed. So no black screen. But, I try to save my work and it says I'm out of space. Unbelievable. I want my money back. Even if they fixed it, I don't trust it. I pray they'll give me my money back. Can't afford a Mac. Maybe a Dell. Loved this laptop when it worked. It's a lemon. Or this model is hopelessly flawed. I see from other reviews I'm not the only one having problems. Buyer Beware!!!

This laptop boots in seconds, is super light, has plenty of storage, and is SO MUCH FUN to play on. I can switch betwen laptop and tablet really quickly, which is something I wasn't really looking for, but was a great addition. Screen is crystal clear, buttons are nice, and the mousepad is super responsive. Great product.

    Loud and Glitchy

I did not listen to others reviews about the fan being loud but I really should have. It is ridiculously loud. Like I have to turn my television up unreasonably loud if I am trying to watch something and type at the same time. Also I have an issue where my computer will turn on and the screen will be black after I log in. Nothing will fix it but waiting a few hours and trying again. I have only had this laptop for 3 weeks.

    Terrible touchpad

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This was my second attempt to purchase a decent PC laptop, also returned within a day just like the Lenovo. I really liked the overall quality and specs but the touchpad was absolutely atrocious– this was the case even on the display model at my local Best Buy but I just assumed it took too much abuse. The test is this: open up MS Word or similar and trying selecting parts of words with the touchpad, using the trackpads clickable mouse part, too. That clicking motion causes the cursor to jump, really frustrating when you're trying to do simple text editing tasks. In 2017, I'm not sure how PC manufactures get away with this, it's incredibly low quality and this is *not* an exception, I didn't try a single PC laptop that had a properly functioning trackpad. I understand the new Microsoft laptop trackpads are perhaps the exception outside of Apple's flawless trackpads, but I wasn't interested in a Surface. So, if you love this computer, put a Bluetooth mouse in your bag, too. It was too much for me to accept from a brand new computer.

Received 3 broken laptops! Awful quality control

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this laptop because it was the only option that ticked all of my boxes, and it got great reviews. The first laptop I bought had a touchpad that was loose, so I returned it expecting to get a new, working laptop. The second laptop I received had terrible backlight bleeding that made it almost impossible to watch Netflix or dark videos. Third times a charm right? Wrong. The third laptop I received had even worse backlight bleeding. I opted to try to get it from another Best Buy location, but when I tried to purchase the laptop, even after showing them my prior receipts, they refused to honor my student discount that I used on the original laptop. I cannot believe that I received 3 broken laptops from Best Buy, and needless to say I will be taking my business elsewhere. All around an awful experience with Best Buy, which wasted many hours of my time.

    Disappointed. Not recommend.

I'm completely disappointed. Such a beautiful computer and great design, but with two fatal flaws. It overheats in like 20 minutes; the fan is LOUD at times and you can feel hot air coming out of the vent. That is definitely not normal, especially for a computer that is less than a week old. So I went to Best Buy for an exchange for the same model and in the first computer it had a bunch of games pre-installed, but in the second one it had none, which is kinda weird. Both had Netflix pre-installed, but in the second computer I can't use it because it needs an update, but when I clicked "Update Now" it wouldn't let me; it said there was an "error". It won't even let me into the Microsoft App Store because yet again it says "ERROR". The second computer is only one day old!!! I don't know what is going, HP needs to get its ducks in a row. Not worth it.

Stay away from HP laptops. 15-30 minute boot times. The only programs installed are Microsoft Office and Norton anti-virus yet the laptop is virtually unusable. I've seen dog turds that have better computing experiences. I like to support American products (even if made overseas) but this is such a piece of garbage that I'd rather use it for target practice than as a real computer.

When I first took it out of the box and began set up it froze on a blue screen with spinning dots for over an hour so I did a basic reset. Two days later I was running Photoshop and it froze again. I did a factory reset. I was in the process of transferring my files back to the computer (12gb) it took over 3 hours! When I went to access the files on my desktop it froze again. It also corrupted my portable hard drive and I couldn't access any of my files from there either. I did another factory reset and the files that came with the laptop couldn't open. It couldn't even load the icons on my desktop! I probably got a lemon but I don't wanna chance it with another HP I just want my money back. I should have stuck with Samsung. I'm a photographer I need my laptop and now I have to refund 4 clients because the photos were corrupted from this computer!!
