Oo wee. Where do I start with this review? I have been using Chromebooks for the last 6+ years, and I believe this is my 4th Chromebook. I love Chromebooks for one reason, they are simplistic light computers with a long battery life and an excellent substitute for a Windows machine. It's a great machine to carry to the coffee shop for work or traveling. ChromeOS was an exciting concept, and over the years, it has developed into a genuinely usable machine. Now you can not only run your web apps, but you also have your Android app store to complete the experience, and for the power user, Linux command line interface. My biggest issue sometimes with Chromebook has been a lack of ram memory and storage flexibility. You see, a lot of Chromebooks follow the trend of using a low-end processor with minimal ram (4 GB) and minimal storage (32-64 GB). For most users, this is a perfect combination for a simple, easy-to-use laptop computer with the safety of ChromeOS and reliability of the computer for basic everyday needs. The Acer Spinbook has effectively changed my view of low-end Chromebooks and all its little nitpicking compromises made to keep it at a specific price point. The one downside to Chromebooks has always been most of the Chromebook hardware is relatively low-end. Designed to maximize battery power and enough resources to get an essential web experience. Depending on what you plan to install on your Chromebook, you are quite limited in many abilities. Configuration-wise, this Chromebook has a 14” 16x10 touchscreen 1080P screen paired with a 12-core Intel Core i5, 256 GB storage, and 8 GB of ram. This configuration should be good with the end of life for updates set for June 30, 2030. There is SO much power from the 12-core Intel Core i5 processor that this Chromebook is a regular Windows PC replacement to the next level. On initial bootup, the experience was familiar and, frankly, something I’ve enjoyed using over the last few years. I noticed that, unlike lower-end Chromebooks, the operating system of this Acer Spin 714 uses close to 60 GB of storage for the operating system requirements. ChromeOS does not take that much space, but I think in this case, the additional cache and internal operating system storage is optimized for this laptop that takes up space For just kicks, because I have never had such a powerful Chromebook, I installed some first-person shooters from the Android store. While Call of Duty kept crashing, I am sure it's an issue with the game and not the hardware limitation. Other FPS, fast action and role-playing games ran perfectly fine, including “SimCity”, “Minecraft,” and “Roblox” These apps could never be installed on lower-end ChromeOS-based Chromebook devices, but when you have the resources on this laptop, why not? Upon unboxing, the first thing that catches your eye is that this laptop is wrapped in beautiful slate grey with rose gold highlights and has a premium feel. The backlit keyboard is beautiful to work with perfect button press range, the touchpad is excellent, and the screen, which can only be described as gorgeous. Bright, clear, and touchscreen capable. Above the screen is a clear 2-megapixel camera with a privacy shutter. There are HDMI, USB-A, and USB-C connectors on the sides, providing ample connectivity. The Acer Spin 714 is a 2-n-1 laptop that can be rotated into a position of tablet mode. In tablet mode, the Chromebook becomes a fancy, potent tablet. While ChromeOS isn't designed in tablet mode, the laptop screen reconfigures into a familiar tablet mode esq where it acts like most smartphones. I enjoyed using Tablet mode, except that it is heavy. For daily usability, the Battery life is acceptable, and the ability to go at least a whole workday without charging is commendable, considering the power under the hood. Even then, I got a good 8-9 hour working time with the CPU regularly under high loads, which will drain the battery much faster than other chromeOS-based laptops. It's hard to comprehend what my feelings on this laptop is. For years, I have had grossly underpowered laptops. If the Chromebook had the Goldilocks symptom, this Acer spin 714, would be too hardcore. As it has all the bells and whistles, you would ever expect. This laptop is a beast that will chew through all your data and spit out lovely graphs and figures for you There is so much you could do with this laptop that it's the best ChromeOS laptop ever. Consider one of these if you are looking for a Chromebook, as it would change your point of view.

This is a very nice computer! I downsized from a HP Pavilion. And this Acer had all the capacity I needed. I added Microsoft 365 to it. And there is plenty of storage for all the photos, spreadsheets, etc. It loads quickly, and has lots of functions. Without being complicated.

The Acer chromebook is a decent device. It powers up very quickly and can handle most web based opreations with ease. My only complaint it the weight. It's ~3.2 lbs. Which is quite a bit heavier than my old Google chromebook which tipped the scales at 2.6 lbs.

Made before the introduction of "Chromebook Plus", this speedster upgrades to and runs Google's AI boosted Plus OS even though it doesn't say "plus" on the lid. It's one click to enable the built in Debian VM, where you can install and run all your favorite Linux apps and dev tools.
