I opened the box carefully, as I always do with any electronics. The presentation was excellent. The packaging was superb. The laptop has some amazing features. The screen came with a single black dead pixel in the bottom right quadrant of the screen. I cant unsee it, it would only be a risk of spreading as time goes on if I was to keep it. I will 100% be returning this. Acer needs to step up their game on their screen quality as I had another predator laptop a year ago and it also came with a dead pixel. I will not be purchasing another Acer product for the forseeable future until an announcement is made admitting their faulty screens have been improved. Very disappointing because of how impressive the specs were for the price.

This is a great gaming laptop. It comes with a short getting started guide and the manual can be found online. Setting it up was quick and simple. One thing I really like it that it has multiple fans areas to keep from heating up even with intense gaming, which was a concern with the previous gaming laptop we had. So far, the battery life is what I expected, just under two hours but most of the time, I am using it while it’s plugged in. Another great feature in this laptop are all the ports it offers! It offers a thunderbolt 4, HDMI, ethernet, microSD card reader, speaker jack, and 3 USB 3.2 ports. This is just so useful and I was surprise to see all it had. These days, most laptops don’t offer anything close to this. Being able to upgrade the memory is a plus but so far, this is working well. I do miss that it isn’t touch screen but the touchpad works great. The keyboard is pretty cool too with the colorful lighting and special lighting about the WASD and arrows on the keyboard. Two not so great things: the laptop is heavy so it would be challenging if you planned to travel with it often. And the the plug base is large. But overall it is a great gaming laptop that I would recommend. And one more thing, I set it all up with my microsoft account and it was working great and set up my log in pin. About the 5th time I went to turn on and use it, it didn’t recognize my pin and I had to set it up again. I found that to be strange, never had this happen before with any laptop I’ve use. So I hope it was a one-time issue and doesn’t happen anymore.

This is a fantastic pure gaming machine and quite likely the best value for money right now. Acer made some compromises to keep the price down, but they made all the right ones for a gaming machine! The Predator Helios Neo 16 has a VERY bright and clear 1200p screen with wide viewing angles, fast refresh time, and no visible pixel ghosting. The matte finish resists reflection and my unit has absolutely zero light bleed. Impressive. Considering how important the screen is, this is well worth the money and literally 2x as bright as most other gaming laptops at its price point. Acer also didn't skimp on the cooling and while the fans can race like a leaf blower, they WORK and this laptop can continue cranking out performance under load. The CPU is more than adequate, being the newest 13th gen Intel and since most games are GPU, not CPU heavy, it is plenty capable. The RTX 4050 also performs very well and due to the excellent cooling, continues to perform. Unlike most gaming laptops, it even does fairly well on battery. It can charge via USB-C, just more slowly, and full gaming performance is not available without using the included power brick which is slimmer than I expected. Keyboard feels fine and the lighting around the arrow and wasd keys is very welcome. Having dedicated mode buttons is awesome. Trackpad is fine. The lid is metal and this is one of the more understated gaming laptops so it could used for school or work without drawing too much attention. Tons of ports, and its nice to have some on the back as it made even more cooling vents possible. Speakers are pretty good too. It has 2 upgradeable RAM slots and an upgradeable SSD. Where did Acer cut corners to keep the price down? The case is very plasticy (except the lid). It is heavy at almost 6lbs. The base is thick and Acer was clearly prioritizing cooling volume over thickness. The webcam is 720p and not a very good one. All of these are the right compromises for gaming and the machine is just excellent at what it does.

This is a fantastic gaming laptop. I have loved it since I purchased it. Definitely an amazing value at $850. I originally bought a gigabyte G5 KF5 with a 12th gen i-7 and a 75w RTX 4060. After being incredibly unimpressed with the build quaility on that laptop I did a ton of research and picked up this Acer Predator Helois Neo 16 for about the same price as I'd paid for the gigabyte. The Predator is phenomenally better for several reasons. Despite only having the RTX 4050, this laptop outperforms the gigabyte laptop I originally purchased in almost everyway. Benchmarks were higher on every score and games run at a slightly higher FPS. This is likely due to the 140w supply to the GPU, the far superior cooling system and a MUX switch. This predator helios is comfortable, and doesn't really get any surface heat even in the most demanding of tasks or games. The fans are actually pretty quiet too, they only occasionally wind up for a few seconds and the cpu and gpu never get above 65-70 degrees C even in turbo mode. In contrast, my G5 KF5 would consistently have the cpu pegged at 92 - 97 degrees C while playing pretty much anything and the keyboard would get hot fast, so this is a huge improvement. I like to play a lot of older games from the 90s and early 2000s so I was worried that the odd 16x10 ratio on the screen might cause issues with compatability. Instead it actually makes these games look fantastic since most of them were originally designed for more square screens and the great colors on this laptop help those older games really come alive. The 16x10 ratio looks fabulous on newer games as well. It's a feature that I didn't know if I wanted that I've come to love! The build quality of the Predator is very, very good. From the great screen to the outstanding cooling system. The keyboard feels great and the body feels durable and fairly heavy duty. The packaging was great and made me feel excited that I was getting an awesome new laptop. It even came with a nice little zip up padded sleeve/case thing for the laptop (that actually doubles as a pretty great mousepad ;D) The build quality only really had two cons for me. First would be that the speakers aren't the best, as they are pretty lacking in bass. That said, they still blow the doors off of the speakers in my Gigabyte G5 (worst speakers I've ever heard in a laptop). Second is that despite the way above average, CPU, GPU and RAM performance the ssd that it came with is quite slow for an ssd. I may change it out as my secondary drive that I installed in the other M.2 port is quite a bit faster. The only other minor complaint that I had with this laptop is that it was kind of a royal pain to install Windows 10 onto thanks to Acer and their crappy firmware. It isn't too hard once you figure it out though. For those interested in installing Windows 10 you'll simply need to go to Acer's download website, put in your computers information and then download the IRST driver so that windows can see your hard drives. That webiste with the drivers will come in handy since you'll also need to download and install just about every driver (including WAN, so you'll want to throw that one on your drive that you install windows with as well) after the install to get everything working properly. If portablilty is an issue for you, you may want to consider that this laptop has some weight and the battery isn't super long lasting. I wouldn't particularly love to pack this thing to class everyday or anything, however where I don't have to, I actually like that it's a bit heavier as I believe quite a bit of that weight is quality, durable parts and a fantastic cooling system. From past experiences and their sometimes less than ideal reputation I was hesitant to purchase an Acer laptop, however since it arrived, this laptop has nothing but exceeded my expecations in almost every way. From high gaming performance to outstandingly above average benchmarks this puppy can get the job done at a great price. Sure it's not the most light or portable laptop and the battery life is pretty subpar (4 hrs or so with optimus on not gaming, maybe 2 hrs on the nvidia GPU only), but since I only need to move it on occasion and always plan to be plugged in anyway these aren't really issues for me, and I think the overall build quality is well worth the sacrifice in weight. I would highly recommend this laptop if you mostly plan to use it in one place or if, like me, you think the weight is worth the overall build quality.

Hmmmm, well, I have started to run the laptop through its paces. I use it for productivity mainly. Although it does not have a touchscreen, the performance is solid, the video is crisp and clear, and while I had to wait to sync all my Onedrive files, and Dropbox stuff, and Google Drive items, it runs pretty well. No major problems with updates, although users should be prepared for an extended period waiting to complete them when you fire this up right out of the box. Easy to setup with my MS account, and the nVidia card is very nice. One problem I did have was the time and date in the bios was off and I forgot that you have to hold F2 down on the boot up to get into the BIOS settings.[I kept holding down the Delete key...old habits] The battery drain I am noticing is significant, but that is to be expected since it is a gaming laptop. A good laptop to stream on, but just be mindful that when you do streaming in HDX vs SD, the battery will get used up more quickly. The camera is pretty nice and the audio is excellent as well. The backlit keybord reminds me of when I had a Corsair keyboard, so I am still learning and I want to see what other effects I can queue up. Keep in mind that a lot of the newer games are more demanding of RAM, but for what I am using this for, 16 Gb is enough. The AC adapter is a bit cumbersome, but it does the job of quickly recharging the laptop. All things considered, it is a good laptop for doing the things I need it to do. The processor speed is good, the memory usage is excellent and the video is exceptional. If you are looking for a higher end laptop, then spend the money, but if you are looking for a laptop for work that will deliver on productivity and streaming, then this one does the job.
